Relay For Life 2010 deemed most successful relay ever!!

This past Saturday, April 23, 2010, the UGA Spec Towns Track was the site for UGA Relay for Life's biggest over-night event of the year! Relay for Life began at 7:00 p.m. and celebrated the night for 12 hours until 7:00 a.m. all in the hopes to "change the channel on cancer!"

Admission to the fun filled night was $10, and all proceeds from the night's event along with fundraising benefitted the American Cancer Society. All team members throughout the year are encouraged to collect donations and 10 days before the big night, Relay for Life launched a Sweeps Week 10 for 10 Challenge! The challenge was for the student organization to raise $10,000 each day for 10 days (April 13th - April 23rd) up until the night of celebration!

The entire night was full of entertainment, food, and dancing to keep the participants energetic and up-beat! There were performances by the Dance Dawgs, the Red Hotz, DJ Invisible, and numerous speakers. The night also included fun activities such as x-box live and a newlywed game!

So far UGA Relay has raised $306,581.62 and the money is still coming in! This year's event is believed to be one of the most successful events UGA Relay has ever had before! UGA Relay for Life thanks all participants for a great night remembering loved ones lost, celebrating cancer survivors, and continuing to raise money and fight against the growing disease.

The University of Georgia's first Relay for Life was in 2000 and has grown over the years to be one of the largest in the country. In 2009, UGA Relay for Life raised over $250,000, which made it one of the largest campus philanthropies also earning the title as one of the top college Relays in the world!
