UGA HEROS was created in 2003, and so far the organization has raised over $1,000,000 to improve the quality of life for children affected by HIV/ AIDS. The mission of the organization is “to improve the quality of life for the 12,000 children in Georgia by raising money to support the programs offered by H.E.R.O for Children, Inc., spreading awareness about the growing problem of pediatric AIDS, and participating in service initiatives aimed at improving the lives of affected children.” Their vision is to not only keep raising funds but to also raise awareness of their cause all across the state of Georgia. The organization works closely with the UGA athletic teams, the university campus, and also the local Athens community striving to improve the lives of children infected with the disease.
